Abstract
In Switzerland, influenza vaccination during pregnancy has been recommended since 2010, and pertussis vaccination since 2017. This cross-sectional pilot study conducted in the Canton of Ticino analyzed, through questionnaires and interviews, the practices of 43 gynecologists regarding the recommendation and administration of the two vaccines. All participants recommend pertussis vaccination and 95% administer it, whereas the influenza vaccine is systematically recommended by 74% and regularly administered by 65%.
The specialists perceive pertussis vaccination as more effective in protecting the newborn, while they tend to underestimate the risks of influenza during pregnancy and show some uncertainty in communicating with patients. Overall, adherence to recommendations is good, but there is a clear need to strengthen training and awareness, particularly regarding influenza and infant protection.
