Abstract
Lemierre syndrome is a rare and frequently under-recognized sequela of a gram-negative bacilli oropharyngeal or dental infection, characterized by septic thrombophlebitis of the internal jugular vein followed by systemic septic embolization and sepsis. If not promptly recognized and treated with intravenous antibiotics, this syndrome is still associated with a significant mortality rate (12%). Many general practitioner are still not familiar with Lemierre Syndrome and lack experience in sonographic evaluation of the patient, that can increase early detection of the disease. We describe the case of a 36 years old male developing a Lemierre Syndrome after a dental extraction.
